About Me

Hello. I’m James Perry and this website is meant to be a portfolio for my 3D art work. I began learning Blender in 2012 with YouTube tutorials, and by 2014 I was using it to model projects for product illustration and design. I can also model in TurboCAD, which is an alternative to AutoCAD. I prefer working in Blender for its versatility with grease pencil, animation, simulations, compositing and video editing capabilities.

I’ve always had an interest in 3D modeling because I’ve always been active at making/building/fixing things since I was a child. I’m open to doing nearly anything with 3D modeling: whether it’s modeling assets for VFX, helping to optimize meshes for 3D printing or manufacturing, or modeling assets for games or animated films. I am constantly learning as much as I can about 3D modeling and 3D art in general, and will continue do so the rest of my life.

The site name smijworks comes from my artist name of Smij. I use the name Smij to sign my 3D art and artworks I make by hand, whether paintings, drawings or sculpture. Smij is also an alter ego that represents a loud-mouthed, tiny creature that trolls on the internet. I use the Smij character as an avatar and profile picture on various social media sites. Currently, I only post examples of my fine art on Instagram.
