Animation

I have mostly done animation as a hobby and not for professional compensation. I can do simple animations in 2D or 3D, and I’m working towards developing more advanced skills. Here are some projects and descriptions of some of my work.

In 2011, I experimented with a kind of ‘puppet animation’ with a news reporter koala named Brats Bucko. I used Small Basic to program scenes where I could move mouth parts or body parts when I pressed a keyboard button. In this way, I lip-synced the character live while making the mouth and body parts move. I abandoned the project when I realized that adding movements like walking would require a more difficult ‘live performance’ of trying to puppet the characters as well as lip-sync them.

I attempted to make the koala and friends into 3D animation in Blender in the following years. I found that my limited knowledge of proper topology, textures, rigging and animation principles made the entire project exponentially difficult when I was doing everything from the modeling and voice-overs to the music and editing. I then focused on using my job as a Product Illustrator to strengthen important workflow skills like non-destructive modeling techniques and asset management.

I made the logo and short animation below for the Wrench Of Power project. More about Wrench Of Power can be found at www.wrenchofpower.com.
